San Thome Basilica,Chennai

Santhome Cathedral Basilica is located in southern part of Marina beach, Chennai. The name Santhome is in memory of St.Thomas. Portuguese built it in the 16th Century and later rebuilt by British in 1893.It is one of the famous Christian Pilgrimage sites in Chennai.

This magnificent cathedral was built as a tribute to St.Thomas, who as buried here. Santhome basilica is one among the three basilicas built over the tomb of an apostle. The remains of St Thomas have been well preserved here. There is an attractive museum attached to the church. The church is located within the Chennai city and visited by thousands of pilgrims/tourists from all over the world.
