Big Mosque,Chennai

Name: Big Mosque or Wallajah Mosque

Location: Janbazar area of Triplicane in Chennai near Queiad-e-Milleth High Road.

Year of constructionn: constructed in the Year 1795 by the family of the Nawab Wallajah.

Historical Importance:

The Big Mosque is built in the midst of a large ground. This historical monument was built completely out of gray granite. Wood and steel was avoided during the construction. The mosque has two lofty minarets at the front and there are no domes.The architecture is typical of the medieval period. This impressive granite edifice is one of the Muslim pilgrimage centres of chennai and a tourist destination .
