Marina Beach in Chennai

Marina Beach is a major tourist attraction of Chennai, adjoins Bay of Bengal a part of the Indian Ocean. It runs between, near Fort St. George in the north to Besant Nagar in the south, covers a distance of 12 KM, making it the longest urban beaches in India. It is interesting to know that, the width of beach at the widest stretch is 437 m. It is also considered as one of the longest beaches of the world.

Marina beach is one of the primary areas of recreation in Chennai city and a major tourist attraction of Tamil Nadu, India. People visiting Chennai, make it a point to spend some time here.

This loveliest beach is primarily sandy in nature. Watching the Sunset and Sun rise from marina beach is a wonderful experience. The sea is rough and undercurrent is very strong. Bathing/swimming in marina beach is not advisable and prohibited. There are no lifeguards permanently stationed here.

The beach is dotted with shops and food stalls. The 3 kilometer stretch of the marina beach (from Anna square to Light house) has uninterrupted pavement and a sub-road parallel to the main road, used for vehicle parking, jogging, walking, etc.

Plenty of seating arrangements have also been made in the beach. Marina beach, being one the popular area of recreation, police personnel and lifeguards constantly patrol the whole area by horses and other vehicles. Entire stretch is dotted with statues, monuments, governmental institutions and historic monuments from the British rule.

There is lot of  attractions around Marina beach like aquarium, Anna samathi, MGR samathi, and Senate house, Icehouse, etc., making Chennai tourism very interesting
