Thiruvottiyur Shiva Temple and Vadivudaiyamman Temple
Thiruvottiyur Shiva Temple is one of the great Shiva temples of Tamil Nadu. This ancient temple in chennai is very famous and attracts hundreds of pilgrims everyday.
Location : Thiruvotriyur, Chennai
Importance of Thiruvotriyr: Pattinathar lived and attained Samadhi in the form of a Lingam here. This place is also the birthplace of Kaliya Nayanar.
Main Deity: Aadipureeswarar is a Lingam of earth. Lingam is in the form of Mud Mound covered by a Kavasam (covering). Goddess here is Vadivudaiamman. The temple is well known for its Tyagarajara shrine. Thyagarajar's dance here is Sundara Natanam. Thiyagaraja swamy here is believed to have been in a sitting position.
