Parthasarathy Temple - Chennai

Name of the temple :The Parthasarathy Temple is one of the oldest Vaishnavite temples in chennai dedicated to Lord Krishna.

Location: Located in heart of the city,Triplicane, Chennai.

Period of the temple : Parthasarathy temple is one of the ancient hindu temple in chennai built by pallavas in 8th Century and reformed by later kings.

Architecture: South Indian temple Architecture.

Features: One of the 108 holy abodes of Lord Vishnu.The parthasarathy temple houses deities of four incarnations of Lord Vishnu namely Narasimha,Rama,Varaha and Venkatakrishna.Here Lord Vishnu gave darshan as parathasarhy, the charioteer of Arjuna during Mahabharatha War.

Legend:King sumathi wished to workship Lord Venkateshwara as Krishna.Lord Venkateshwara gave darshan to King Sumathi as Lord Parthasarathy here in order to fulfil his promise.Idol of Lord Partasarathy was installed by Sage Athreya.The meaning of Parthasarathy' is the charioteer.Partha denotes Arjuna and Sarathy denotes charioteer.

As per Hindu mythology,Lord Krisha served as the charioteer for Arjuna during Mahabharatha war.Hence main deity Lord Parthasarathy's face is full of scars created by the arrows of kauravas in the Kurukshetra war.

Here Lord Parthasarary gave darshan with moustache (as per traditions of the charioteer) and conch.He is also seen without his weapon Chakra as Lord krishna has promised renounce weapons during mahabharatha war.

Temple Timing: Parathsarathy temple is open to public between Morning 6.00 AM-12.30 PM and Evening 4.00 PM to 8.00 PM
